The frontier between the two continents, |
![]() |
Being a center of immeasurable land called Urals, and a frontier between the two continents, Europe and Asia, Ekaterinburg is one of the most interesting yet poorly known places in the world. It was founded in 1721 as a small settlement around a metallurgical plant, on the bank of a beautiful river, in the heart of Ural Mountains chain. Today, it's a huge megapolis, "the third capital of Russia", center of political, economical, and cultural life. Ekaterinburg is the third largest Russian city, administrative center of Sverdlovsk oblast and the capital of the Urals. Sverdlovsk oblast is one of the most developed and advanced regions in Russia. It is very rich in minerals and raw materials, main industry branches are heavy machinery and metallurgy. It is situated far from ethnic conflicts areas and politically stable. Ekaterinburg can be easily found on the geographical map of the vast Euro-Asian Continent: it is in the middle of the Ural mountains, which separate Europe and Asia. Thus, Ekaterinburg lies at the crossroads of 2 continents and it determines its political, economic and cultural peculiarities. Sverdlovsk oblast (and Ekaterinburg as its main city) exports raw materials and imports foodstuff, consumer goods and machines. Business and investment climate is believed to be favorable. Its complicated history is paradoxical in many ways. Here in Ekaterinburg, you find out all about the most carefully guarded secret of communist authorities: in 1918, a bloody murder of the last Russian Emperor Nickolay II and his family happened here. Of course you have heard a strange story about Tsar's daughter Anastasia, her supposed magical escape, and fascinating adventures abroad
Until now, researchers are puzzled - what did actually happen on that horrible cold night. Maybe you will be able to find an answer? The Ural Museum of Youth will take you for unique interactive tour of the last century of Russian history. You will enjoy a walk along Iset river with its numerous bridges and lovely green parks on both sides. Our guides will tell you amazing stories about Ekaterinburg, where each old building has its own story
Hunting has always been very popular in Russia. Here you have great opportunities to hunt, as Ekaterinburg is surrounded by forests full of different animals and birds. Time shift: Moscow +2 hours, GMT +5 hours, EST +10 hours, Pacific Time +13 hours Climate : They say that Ural climate is unstable as woman's character: temperatures in the Urals are changing through the year from terrible winter cold to hot and sunny weather in July. During three summer months, the temperature stays around 20-25 C. The rest of the year is relatively warm but windy and rainy. We suggest that you reserve one or two days of your stay to visit incredibly beautiful lakes - "Ural pearls" hidden in boundless forests, the most romantic scenery you can imagine. Nature of the area, surprisingly enough, managed to escape destructive human touch - it's gorgeous and impressive wilderness.

Walking downtown, you will touch the same pavement prisoners of "state concentration camps" did. When Josef Stalin was the head of Soviet government, Ekaterinburg became the largest passing point for "political criminals" who were sent to develop the lands of Siberia and the Far East - another name for a death sentence, inhuman work.
For our winter visitors, we offer skiing trips to a beautiful mountain area not far from Ekaterinburg. Unforgettable landscape, natural snow, resorts not overcrowded with tourists. You will rent professional skiing equipment, if you do not have your own, use help of an English speaking instructor if necessary. Comparing to the rest of the world - moderate pricing of your stay.
